Forming an Unbreakable Bond

When Morgan started volunteering at Animal League America, he didn’t know the gifts he would receive in return included a new best friend.

Morgan, a long-time resident of the area, was already familiar with North Shore Animal League America. Morgan was a lifelong resident of the area and knew North Shore Animal League America. When his schedule changed in 2022 a friend recommended that Morgan volunteer at our shelter in his newfound time. Morgan was immediately drawn to the older dogs. “The older guys really make the best companions, they already know what to do,” he said. “People walk in locked in on getting a puppy and I can’t help myself; I will ask them are you sure you want to take care of an infant in your house?”

Seniors and dogs with special requirements are often ignored, but because we have a no-kill facility, they can remain with us for as long they need until someone sees what they offer. Morgan felt a connection to Oliver, a black Lab/Pit cross. Nearly 100 lbs. Oliver, an epileptic dog, was constantly overlooked by the Sponsor Pet program, despite his need for medical care.
