There are many factors that can increase your risk of heart disease, such as family history, age and so on. You can lower your risk of heart disease by following these tips.
- Don’t smoke or use tobacco – Cigarette smoke (even second hand smoke) lowers the oxygen in the blood, this raises blood pressure and heart rate, putting extra stress on the heart as it trys to get oxygen to the body and brain.
- Healthy rainbow foods – Aim to include a colourful variety of fruits and vegetables with each meal. Switch to low-fat dairy foods or those that contain no fat. Add fish, whole grains and lean meats.
