Fast Foam Repairs: Simple repairs to save your ARF


It is inevitable that your ARF will suffer damage when you fly RC planes. There’s no reason, however, to trash your crash. You can repair your bent bird and save money by not buying new parts.

What’s Needed

For any model repair, you will need a hobby knife, with replacement blades that are sharp, some masking tap, a sanding block with medium-grit (100 to150 grit) and fine-grit 220-grit. The glue required is 15-minute 2-part epoxy, CA adhesive that’s safe for foam, and accelerator. Denatured Alcohol is useful for cleaning foam surfaces and removing excess epoxy. Bob Smith Industries glue and Flash Adhesives were among the many we used.

Removing Dents

Step 1 Dents are merely cosmetic. The leading edge can take a lot of abuse, but they’re not a serious problem. You can remove a small dent by applying a moist paper towel and heating it with an iron. Most of the times, the steam expands the foam and makes your dent disappear.
