Embracer reportedly set to sell Star Wars: KOTOR remake developer Saber Interactive for $500 million deal


Embracer Group, the company behind the closure of Saints Row studio Volition Games and layoffs at companies like Eidos-Montréal and Black Forest Games, is set to sell Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake developer Saber Interactive, according to a new Bloomberg report. Source told publication that Embracer will sell the developer for $500 million to a private group of investors. 

Saber Interactive’s ownership will change to private once the transaction is complete. Embracer has been responsible for layoffs over the past two years. The studio will continue to work on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic re-release, which they took over from Aspyr Media in 2022. 

Bloomberg Reports state that this sale is Embracer’s attempt to reduce costs, along with studio closures and job cuts after a $2 billion planned deal with Saudi Arabian-backed Savvy Games Group in 2023 fell through. One of the sources cited by the publication says that the $500 million agreement comes with an option for Saber Interactive, which is owned by Saudi Arabian investors, to also bring multiple Embracer subsidiary companies with them.
