Neutering is a common practice in veterinary medicine. It aims to control pet populations and eliminate risks related with certain health conditions and reproductive behaviors. Neutering has many benefits such as reducing mammary and pyometra tumors among female dogs. However, the impact of neutering on Rottweilers’ lifespan is still a controversial topic. Recent data from VetCompass Australia was used in a study to compare the life expectancy of neutered Rottweilers with those that were sexually intact.

The study’s analysis included data on Rottweilers neutered before 1 year of age and those neutered before 4.5 years, comparing them to their intact counterparts. The study found that male Rottweilers who were neutered before the age of 1 year had a 1.5 year expected life expectancy, while female Rottweilers lived 1 year less than their intact counterparts. These results indicate that early neutering has a significant impact on the life expectancy of these dogs.
