The Church will mark the 500th Anniversary of Our Lady of Guadalupe’s apparitions in 2031. Seven years is a long time, and much has happened since the apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Most importantly, millions of souls have been converted to Catholicism.
The world that the Virgin Mother God entered into by her appearances in Tepeyac (what is now Mexico City) from December 9th through 12th 1531 was marked by stark contrasts. One hand, there was a rebellion against God’s Law and the open rebellion that swept through every human heart. Aztecs practiced a brutal and mass human sacrifice in the name religion, killing defenseless and innocent human life. Wicked men perverted the religious sense, so they stopped listening to the conscience of every good man, who teaches that it’s always wrong to kill innocent and defenseless life. In the meantime, some Spanish explorers, out of selfish interest, saw the natives as being less than human, and thought nothing about using military force.
