In a tightening labor market, effective workforce development policies and programs are essential for healthy communities and economic growth. It is not surprising that Governors continue to place a high priority on workforce development in the current economic climate and workforce environment. In their 2024 State of the State Addresses, Governors laid out a range of workforce-development efforts. These included investing in education programs and training, partnering up with the private sector for training that is aligned with labor market demands, promoting work-based learning and apprenticeships, supporting adult education programs and upskilling, and fostering collaboration among educational institutions, government agencies and employers.
