Autism Advocacy: It’s Important


Autism Acceptance Month is a month-long celebration of differences that exist within our communities. It also highlights the challenges and resources for those who have autism.

Despite one in 36 children receiving an autism diagnosis, there’s much about the disorder that is shrouded in myths, conspiracies and stereotypes. Autism Acceptance Month is an annual campaign to promote the importance of receiving a formal diagnosis, demystify stigmas, and increase awareness and acceptance for those with autism.

“As discussions of autism signs have become more mainstream, stigmas disappear,” says Ellen Fittro, chief clinical officer at InBloom Autism Services. “At InBloom, our caring and professional clinicians recognize how amazing and unique each and every child is, and celebrate each child’s strengths and differences.”

All starts with a proper diagnosis.

It can be difficult to get an autism diagnosis, but it can be life-changing. It can be difficult to obtain an accurate autism diagnosis if you have misconceptions about what it is to have the condition and its causes.
