JConcepts continues to muscle new scale off-road items into the market with the introduction of the Tusk 1.0” tire with 63mm outside diameter. The JConcepts design team focused on creating a new product after successful tires like the Landmines. This included information gained from driving, crawling and a great deal of experience. The team chose a large size to make it a high-performance tire with a scale-based design. However, the tread pattern was not changed.
The Tusk’s sidewalls are reinforced with heavy lugs, giving it an animal instinct. The V-shaped lug in the center is surrounded by multiple steps at the sides to increase grip. Meanwhile, the super soft rubber compound flexes as it contours the landscape. The team designed large staggered traction bar off the side, continuing the V shape pattern. While the shorter version steps along with the center lug the longer version fills the void beneath and meets up near to the center line.
The Mirrored Tire is laid out perfectly and the alternate rows give a sense of staggered height. JConcepts added sidewall lugging to increase pinch grip for gap crawling, and also relieved a small amount of rubber in order to increase flexibility. All traction bar and lugging has relief cuts and slots at the top for additional small edges to catch light dirt, dust and debris. Tusk’s sidewall lettering features a lot of detail with names, sizes, and identification.
The super soft green compound, combined with a lug-arrangement that is incredibly flexible, gives the tire an extremely grippy feeling while still maintaining the scale and performance appearance. The height of the tire provides ample ground clearance to tackle a variety of terrains. Side-wall logos are positioned in a way that is both beautiful and balanced. The tires feature a soft, open-cell foam insert that can withstand the compound while remaining flexible for sharp terrain.
