India-China border stalemate persists despite 29th WMCC: No breakthrough reported

New Delhi: No breakthrough was reported after the 29th meeting of the working mechanism for consultation & coordination (WMCC) on India-China border affairs. The meeting was earlier held in Beijing on Wednesday. The Line of Actual Control between India and China remains stalemated as Chinese troops continue to hold all of the tension points in the Ladakh region to the north where they had gathered four years ago, in violation of border agreements with India.

India and China have engaged in a war on words this month, amid strained ties. India once again lashed out at China over its “absurd” claims over the Indian northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh.

On Thursday, India again rebuked China, with ministry of external affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stating that Beijing can repeat “baseless claims” over Arunachal “as many times as it wants, but it will not change India’s position that Arunachal was, is and will always remain an integral and inalienable…
