Bipartisan laws, such as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and CHIPS and Science Act, are designed to support thousands upon thousands of new jobs in each state.

Work on upgrading infrastructure and expanding high speed internet. Jobs in areas with critical shortages like cybersecurity and health care. The 21st century will require jobs in fields like manufacturing electric vehicles, microchips, and semiconductors.

Governors banded together on a bipartisan basis to push for these laws, and now they are busy implementing them – breaking ground on long-planned projects.

But these investments can’t get off the ground without workers. Governors are taking multiple steps to build a workforce that is ready to take on the challenges of the 21st century. They’re advancing skills-based hiring and work-based training, as well as other policies to open up new opportunities for workers.


Hire based on skills

Need for millions of jobs something 62% of Americans don’t have: a college degree.

Some fields require a degree. For too many jobs, a requirement for a degree is an obstacle that employers will not hire.
