Dear Abby: I grew in a large family of lower class where there was always drama, fighting, gossip etc. When I became a parent, I vowed to raise my family better. I keep my children and myself away from that. Do I make a mistake by keeping them from my family members? I don’t like drama or problems. Sometimes I miss my loved ones, but I eventually get overwhelmed. — Separate in Chicago

Dear Separate  Your responsibility as a mother or father is to protect them. You have the right to keep your children away from something if you think it could be harmful. However, if you are raising your children in a healthy environment, exposing them to your family drama in LIMITED DOSES isn’t likely to be harmful. Use the bad behavior of your relatives as a learning opportunity. Use them as a “bad example” and point out that in YOUR family, you do not behave that way.
