Every Woman’s Marathon, powered by Team Milk, is a U.S. marathon designed by women, for women. The idea was born out of a need, the lack of female-centric experiences for distance runners. Although almost half of American women participate in marathons, 60% of female runners believe that endurance races are more geared towards men. Historically, women were excluded from marathons because of the (ridiculous) belief that they couldn’t handle the distance; it wasn’t until 1972 that the prestigious Boston Marathon allowed women to participate. The legacy of women being excluded from distance races persists today. Race design, training guides, and gear are still geared toward male athletes.
