The Federal Highway Administration will begin a two-year closure of the Mount Blue Sky Scenic Byway in 2024. This will happen either late July or early august. The temporary lane closing will begin at the CDOT gate along Colorado Hwy. Through the Summit Lake Parking Area to the Mt. Mt. Evans) summit. The road will be closed to motorized and nonmotorized traffic during this period.

For years, the Mount Blue Sky Scenic Byway has been plagued with cracks and holes—a hazard for both cyclists and motorized users. Closed roads will affect summer plans for thousands of recreationalists. About 200,000 tourists visit the area each year. Tagging the summit is a classic local bucket-list item, especially since the road makes Blue Sky one of the most accessible 14,000-foot peaks in Colorado’s Front Range.

During this closure, restrooms and services normally found on Mt. Blue Sky is closed to the general public. The summit will still be accessible via the trails and roads that are not affected by construction.
