“This country needs to grow a pair”, joked the organiser of a new open auction of youngsters aimed to boost British breeding.
This weekend, 11-12 November, Shirley Light from Brendon Stud is organizing the BEST (British Elite Sporthorse Talent). She has some of her own three-year-olds, but also those bred by Shane Breen Carron Nicol Oakingham Stud and others.
Shirley told H&H the idea “popped out of my head”.
“The aim is to promote British breeding,” she said. “It’s time this country grew a pair and put on a good sale like this!”
Shirley stated that all horses would have been at the stud a week before the auction. All have been vetted, and 48 X-rays taken of each horse – “we’re doing everything,” she said – and potential bidders will have every chance to see them in action. Visitors can enjoy the bar and their vehicles on the 11th of November. They will also be able to see the horses loose-jumping. Bidding closes on the 12th of November.
