Stars of the East: Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds Range
Hummingbirds capture the imagination like nothing else. Although there are many species of hummingbirds, most people who live in the east and Canada will only see one. The summer hummers of the east are the ruby-throateds. The eastern half of North America is home to the ruby-throated hummingbirds.
Divide East/West Hummingbird Range

Similar to blue jays and Steller’s jays, Baltimore orioles and Bullock’s orioles, eastern and spotted towhees, and numerous other examples, ruby-throated hummingbirds have a related look-alike species in the west. The western broad-tailed and ruby-throated hummingbirds can be almost mistaken for the ruby-throated. The tail feathers of broad-tailed birds are cinnamon brown in color. The tails of ruby-throated Hummingbirds have black and green colors.
The breeding range for ruby-throated Hummingbirds is not the same as that for broad-tailed birds.
