Black Interior Designers, Inc. has been working to support, connect, and celebrate Black Interior Designers across the nation since 2010. The nonprofit organization’s efforts have made a significant impact in many Black creatives’ careers, especially in an industry that still has much more work to do when it comes to diversity and inclusion.
June Reese’s new book, published by House of June Interiors and Vice President of BID June Reese furthers the organization’s mission by showcasing 50 of the best Black interior designers in the United States. June asked these industry veterans questions about their work, design tips and philosophies. She also inquired as to how being a Black interior designer has influenced them. There are many designers from the West, including Justina Blakeney and Adair Curtis.
We talked with June about the inspiration behind her book, the interesting things that she learned through the interviews she conducted and her advice to aspiring Black designers. Below, you can read what she said.
