The third roundtable of the New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy’s Initiative on maternal and infant health took place in Detroit, Michigan, presided by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
The roundtable highlighted the barriers that families and mothers face when seeking care, and identified opportunities for state and health systems in addressing these challenges. This will ensure better access to quality care for moms as well as babies. The discussion raised issues relating to state maternity care initiatives, the need to grow and diversify perinatal workers to provide families with the care they desire, and access to holistic maternity care, which includes mental and physical health as well as social determinants. This roundtable is the third out of four that will be held in the first half year of 2023.
The roundtable on Expanding Access and Quality of Care brought up eight themes.
