Aunt Octavia’s Chocolate Soul Cake
This recipe makes 1 (9-inch) round cake
Ingredients
- 2 cups of granulated Sugar
- 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1½ teaspoons baking soda
- ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup room-temperature coffee (If you’re feeling brave, try espresso.)
- 1 cup whole Milk
- ½ cup corn oil
- 1½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- Chocolate Frosting (recipe follows)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°, and place oven rack in the center of the oven. Butter or spray 2 cake pans (9 inches) with cooking spray. Line the bottoms of pans using parchment paper.
- In a big bowl, whisk sugar, flour, baking powder and baking soda.
