Georgia deputy killed on duty following fatal crash during chase

A Georgia deputy sheriff was killed on Thursday morning when he was hit by another police vehicle in a chase through Alabama.

The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy Sheriff Eric Minix was killed in the crash after the pursuit by Georgia law enforcement of a stolen vehicle continued into Alabama.

In a post on social media, the sheriff’s department wrote that “during the arrest of the suspect Eric was hit by a police vehicle and was declared dead at a local hospital.”

“We lost a good deputy. We’ve lost a man of integrity. The sheriff’s office said, “We’ve lost a good man.”

WRBL-TV reports that the accident occurred on Interstate 85 near the Georgia-Alabama Border in Chambers County.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has launched an investigation into the accident. A spokesperson said that they are gathering additional information for release.

Minix was a K-9 Officer and is survived by his wife and three daughters.
