Lady Pele, or just “Pele,” is a 4-year-old Thoroughbred filly bred in Kentucky. She is a Tapiture filly (a son by the top sire Tapit), and a Sotique daughter. She is eligible for Retired Racehorse Project’s Thoroughbred Makeover Competition.

Lady Pele has raced nine time and retired from the track after working there for the last time on 16 June 2023. Second Stride has x-rays. She fractured the front condyles and screws in both legs in 2021. She is sound at the moment and doing well in the saddle.

Pele has a sweet, willing disposition. She is “more whoa than go” in the arena and has a nice, big walk when hacking out. Pele is a bit nervous when she’s in a new environment, but responds well to her support.
