Not a watchmaker, but a watch “re-maker”—who else but AET Remould would dare to tweak a Richard Mille or upgrade an Audemars Piguet? AET Remould, a German watch modification and design brand, is creating truly unique timepieces.

The acronym stands for Artistic, Expression and Thought, “all of these being pillars of AET Remould’s core values which led to the creation of the brand name,” they note. Each of the eye-opening pieces are limited to a few examples. The brand was founded by Jonas Hofmann.

No wonder they’ve attracted fans including rapper Rick Ross, social media star turned professional boxer Jake Paul, and pro footballer Javier Hernández Balcázar of the LA Galaxy, plus royalty ranging from Malaysia to the UAE.

We spoke with AET Remould’s Vincent Schmidt about the burgeoning brand and what drives them to create ever-more-covetable heirlooms:

What was the inspiration for AET Remould?

Jonas Hofmann’s original motivation to start AET Remould was his passion for watches and the watch-modifying field. He had been in the watchmaking field for many decades. He had an in-depth understanding of the mechanical watch and a technical knowledge and understanding of watch modification.

He wanted to redefine aesthetic standards for watches by using his own design concepts and create watches of both artistic and practical value. Jonas Hofmann devoted his entire life to the watchmaking industry. His influence and contribution to AET Remould will be remembered even though he is no longer with us.

What is the brand’s design philosophy?

Our product design has always placed emphasis on avoiding unnecessary redundancy and conveying a concise, precise, and powerful aesthetic. For example, for the “Rodin Series” watch named after the artist Rodin, the design follows Rodin’s ideas about artistic creation: “A true artist always takes risks to overthrow all existing prejudices and express his true thoughts.”

We are experts in both the design and manufacturing processes of mechanical watches. We combine high-tech materials and watchmaking technology to create unique and creative modified watches. All brands strive to innovate and bring more refined, artistic and practical watch products to customers.

What factors did you consider when choosing the watch brands that you would work with?

AET Remould has been modified to reflect four of the most popular watch brands in the world, including Rolex Audemars Piguet Patek Philippe Richard Mille. They are widely acknowledged as the best brands in the watch industry. They represent the highest level of quality, flawless workmanship, and high reliability. AET Remould is associated with top watch brands based on the watch modifications. Meanwhile, it can also reflect AET Remould’s superb modification technology.

What are some of AET Remould’s signature materials and modifications?

AET Remould’s main materials are high-tech ceramics and sapphire. Sapphire’s high transparency, hardness and gloss can create a very unique texture in the case. We’ve also used Sapphire for watch straps, a rare practice in the industry. When it comes to high-tech material, it’s a very strong, wear-resistant, and corrosion-resistant product that can improve texture significantly when used in watches. This is a material that’s very attractive.
